The Mustard Shop opened in Norwich in 1973 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Colman’s Mustard, which has been manufactured in Norwich for some 200 years. Stocking a wide range of powder and prepared mustards, including some specialities made especially for the shop and a huge selection of Colman’s memorabilia, “The Mustard Shop” has become one of Norwich’s most important (not to mention popular!) tourist attractions.
Part shop, part museum, The Mustard Shop is now housed in the beautiful art nouveau Royal Arcade in the heart of Norwich city centre. It has been designed so that you feel like you are stepping back in time and browsing in a shop from the Victorian era. Original Colman’s memorabilia including Art Deco mustard pots and wartime mustard tins are on display alongside other items on loan from the archives.
The Mustard Shop is a great place to find out about an important part of Norwich’s history as well as Colman’s Mustard itself. It’s also a brilliant source of unique take-home souvenirs and collectibles with everything from mustard pots and spoons to posters, tote bags and even adorable Colman’s teddy bears.
Colman’s Mustard Shop & Museum was transferred to Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) in 2009. HEART runs Colman’s Mustard Shop & Museum as a retail operation and free visitor attraction.
