Norwich Pubs, Bars & Cafés

It used to be said that Norwich had a pub for every day of the year. Even as late as 1900 there were apparently over 560 public houses in Norwich.

We don’t have anywhere near that that number anymore (sadly – support your local!), but Norwich still boasts a pretty solid cross-section of excellent pubs, bars, cafés and coffee shops that will slake your thirst while offering a convivial atmosphere and a host of other attractions to boot. Whether you’re after a lively drink on a weekend, to the sound of a DJ, or a limited edition Real Ale from a local Norfolk Brewery on a wooden bar stool to the soundtrack of gentle conversation, there’s a ‘watering hole’ to suit all types of drinker in Norwich

Noteworthy pubs and bars in Norwich include some great Real Ale pubs (for example, The Cellar House and The Murderers (multi award-winning), wine bars of distinction (The Lawyer, The Last Wine Bar), traditional-feel locals that now offer excellent food as well (The Unthank Arms, The Garden House) and relaxed, eclectic café-bars (such as The Playhouse Bar and Franks Bar). Across Norwich City centre and beyond, you’ll find some excellent pubs.

If you’re after Café culture, Norwich ticks that box too. We have some serious contenders offering very good coffee (and tea!), homemade cakes and lunches, breakfasts (even on Sundays), Afternoon Tea and, in some cases, a glass of wine or a Bloody Mary for the morning after… Many venues offer free WiFi meaning they are perfect for meeting business colleagues, or simply catching up on some work in a relaxed environment beyond the office.

Dying of thirst? These ideas should wet your whistle…
