The super awesome Book Hive have just announced a brand new, innovative reading scheme, with a series of FREE summer events for children; all run in partnership with the fantastic Laura from Mini Storytellers.
Back in May, The Book Hive were lucky enough to receive a Literary Project Grant from publisher HarperCollins (in association with the National Literacy Trust). This grant is funding their idea, Book Explorers – a completely free reading-related activity programme for primary-aged children, which sees kids completing inspiring worksheets to earn colourful, collectible (and frankly cool!) iron-on patches (designed by the incredibly talented Belinda Chen of Bel’s Art World). The images here are previews of the final designs – the patches are being created as we type…
Mini Storytellers have helped design six themed worksheets – Nature, Space, Food, Dinosaurs, History and Magic. To earn a patch, budding Book Explorers need to use a book they’ve recently read to complete five challenges around their chosen theme. Challenges include crafting, acting, dressing up, writing music, getting outdoors, and much more!
Anyone and everyone can have a go – everything is FREE, and you’ll be able to pick up the worksheets at The Book Hive.
To kick you off, Mini Storytellers will be running support classes on the 2nd August, 9th August, 16th August and 30th August in The Book Hive’s Childrens’ Room.
What better way to fill your summer with fun, creativity and imagination.
