There is a wide variety of fantastic restaurants in Norwich, with some of the best major National ‘chains’ alongside some superb independent eateries. The plethora of excellent local produce on our doorstep lends itself to an array of great places to eat. This is complemented by a healthy quantity of homegrown culinary talent in the form of some very inspiring Norwich-based Chefs.
Several independent Norwich restaurants were established decades ago and still thrive today – a testament to the flourishing Norwich dining culture.
In the area known as the ‘Norwich Lanes’ (often referred to as the ‘independent shopping quarter of Norwich’ as a result of its many unique local businesses), you’ll a very well established Norwich restaurant in the form of The Waffle House, which has existed in Norwich for over 40 years. No visit to Norwich would be complete without a meal in this amazing restaurant.
Also in the Lanes, Bar Tapas (found above stairs on Exchange Street) opened over 25 years ago, bringing a taste of South American Spirit to Norwich in the form of a Bar, Café and Tapas restaurant.
In the heart of Norwich, you can take lunch or Afternoon Tea at one of the most impressive of all local landmarks – Norwich Cathedral. The modern (and award winning) Refectory exists on the footprint of the original medieval Refectory, and passes all profits back to Norwich Cathedral.
Norwich really does have something to suit every taste when it comes to dining – coffee houses and cafés, food pubs, fine dining and relaxed café-bars. You’ll find menus and price ranges to match all budgets.
Once you’ve explored Norwich City centre, don’t be afraid to go further afield in search of a great meal. There are some fabulous restaurants and pubs that serve very high quality food within the Golden Triangle (just outside Norwich City centre) and also on the outskirts of Norwich and beyond.
