English Whisky at St George’s Distillery

Pioneers of the English Whisky scene, The English Whisky Co. is leading the way of English Whisky at their family-owned Distillery in Norfolk. Firmly established as England’s oldest and most prestigious whisky maker, The English Whisky Co. creates exceptional, multi award winning, whiskies using the finest locally sourced water and barley.

Though whisky production stopped in England over 100 years ago, the barley grown in Norfolk and the Breckland water are perfect for producing excellent quality whisky. Forsyths of Rothes, who have been servicing the whisky industry since the late 1800’s, built the equipment in the distillery, including the beautiful copper stills. St. George’s was also fortunate enough to have award-winning master distiller Iain Henderson – formerly Manager at the Laphroaig Distillery and who has assisted in the set up of several successful distilleries – overseeing the initial production.

The first batch of whisky was bottled in December 2009, and during 2010 the distillery bottled an exclusive peaty number that was specially distilled by Iain.

Take a guided tour of their magnificent distilling floor and barrel warehouse. Discover how their wonderful single malt whiskies are made and how St George’s Distillery became the first distillery in England to produce whisky in over 100 years!

The distillery lies just off the A11 at Roudham amongst a grove of cricket bat willows. In addition to the fascinating distillery and shop, is ‘Oakvilla’ a restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Tea.

Admission to the distillery and shop is FREE.
