The Garage is a centre for performing arts, located in Chapel Field North, opposite Chapelfield Gardens, in Norwich. Their goal is to support the creative journeys of participants, audiences and artists.

They are an independent charity which works year-round with local, regional, national, and international partners to change people’s lives through art. The Garage run performing arts classes for all ages and abilities, holiday activities, GCSES in Dance and Drama, an HNC Performing Arts programme, and a FREE Introduction to the Creative Industries course for people interested in working in the arts.

Their live performance programme includes comedy, drama, dance, music, and events. They also support artists to develop new work and their community producers work with residents across Norfolk to co-create projects. These can range from boosting mental health and helping young people improve where they live to engaging the homeless and those experiencing vision impairment. The Garage has a particular focus on young people in challenging circumstances and from disadvantaged backgrounds. To do this they run outreach and referral programmes, providing the life skills and confidence building tools young people need to thrive. It recently launched an individual giving campaign to help it continue this valuable work.

The Garage has four high-spec dance studios, a training room, education suite, 113-seat professional studio theatre and a public café. The venue can be hired for a multitude of purposes – from birthdays to conferences. There’s a flat level entrance with automatic doors. Each studio has a flat entrance and those not on the ground floor can be reached via a lift. There are wheelchair accessible toilets with shower on each main floor. The signs on internal doors are duplicated in Braille and Service Dogs are welcome in the building.

If you live in West Norfolk you will not miss out as The Garage has a sister venue in King’s Lynn called The Workshop. It’s located in New Conduit Street, Vancouver Quarter and also provides a range of performing arts classes, holiday activities, and community work.
