Walnut Tree Distillery: Gins crafted in the heart of the Norfolk countryside.
Emma and Graham make their Gin on a farm near Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure in the heart of rural Norfolk, using botanicals found around the farm and locally.
They both love gin and Emma had been making Sloe Gin for years as gifts, with people often commenting that it was ‘good enough to sell’. Graham’s position as a research scientist was coming to and end, so it was a great time to take the plunge and start their own business.
Emma comes from a farming family with a 500 year history in Norfolk and they were able to use part of an old barn on the farm to set up the distillery, with stills they adapted themselves out of milk churns – upcycling at its best!
All Walnut Tree Distillery gins use (very) locally sourced ingredients, including lavender and sloe berries from around the farm. The walnuts used are from the trees in the farmhouse garden, and give both the farm and the distillery their names. How wonderful.
Emma & Graham started with 30 individually distilled botanicals and mixed and matched them until they had the taste and flavours they wanted. After a lot of trial and error, they settled on the perfect recipe.
When creating their first Gin, Emma & Graham had several that they really liked, but they were all different. Could they choose a favourite? No. So they decided to make them all.
The Walnut Tree Distillery subsequently created a light, refreshing Dry Gin, a Pink with subtle-raspberry-notes Gin, a delicate colour-changing Rose infused Gin
and a Spiced Gin made with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. And, of course, the rich Sloe Gin that started it all.
