Wildflower Glamping: off-grid eco glamping in the Norfolk Broads.
Owner, Kerry, has a lovely unused wildflower field at the back of her home, which she had been wilding for 15 years. As a yoga teacher, Covid severely affected her business. So one day, with some friends, they put their heads together to see what could be done to supplement Kerry’s income. They decided on the fabulous concept of running a pop-up glamping site, and Wildflower Glamping was born. We are so pleased it was!
The site has just had its first season and will run each Summer until the end of September, when the field will be allowed to rest. Kerry also has two wooden structures in her garden for all year round use, which she lets via Airbnb. All have amazing views across acres of Norfolk farmland.
Wildflower Glamping is unique and simple. There are only 4 tents in 2 1/2 acres, with no lines of tents or pokey pitches. Access is through Kerry’s private garden and there is no vehicle access to the field. It’s completely private and peaceful. Unoccupied tents are cleaned daily and the team ensure the guy ropes are kept taut. After checkout, tents are stripped and deep cleaned and made ready for the next glamper. They also use anti-virus spray to be extra safe.
Kerry says ‘It’s so strange to see how the wildlife have adapted to the bell tents on the field so quickly. Kestrels sit on the tents to hunt prey.’
So why glamping and why Wildflower Glamping, we hear you ask…
None of the faff! Just turn up and have a beautifully dressed bell tent, kitchen and fire pit all ready for you. No checklists, no packing and no pitching after a long drive. Everything you need for a happy glamping experience! The solitude and privacy of Wildflower Glamping means you can really get away from it all, but have the glory of Norfolk on your doorstep. Designed to regulate temperature, it’s so wonderful to stay in a bell tent and there is plenty of living space too.
Wildflower Glamping is an ECO site. The glamping site is very sustainable, with compost loos and solar showers. They recycle where they can and avoid single-use plastics. The beauty of the site is its simplicity. There are only 4 bell tents and the view from each is nothing but fields and a big Norfolk sky. Both the sunrise and sunset can be seen from the field, which is filled with ever-changing wildflowers.
Nurturing the wildlife is very important to Kerry and her team. They let the field grow wild, except for mown paths and circles for the tents themselves. No chemicals have been used for at least 15 years and hedgerows have been left to grow wild for the same amount of time; so little owls and many other birds nest in the same place every year. Kerry has noticed an increase in insects, as well as birds and animals, as this is a safe space for them. Foxes and hares breed here too, and they come close to Kerry’s house now as they know she is not a threat.
The site has limited facilities, so as to offer the least disturbance to wildlife. If the sun’s not out the showers will be cold (be warned!). The only power is in the kitchen, and there is no wifi. Natural water is from the site’s private borehole.
Kerry also offers one-to-one yoga classes, if you fancy a little extra relaxation on your holiday.
In all, Wildflower Glamping is a place to chill, surrounded by farmland and the Norfolk Broads. The nearest beach is 25 minutes away, where if you’re lucky, you can swim with seals. If you prefer the rivers, Wildflower Glamping is at the heart of the Broads National Park with Salhouse Broad only a short walk away. How fabulous.
